The opioid epidemic is a national crisis, with opioid pain prescriptions being implicated as a major driver. While discussion has focused on rehabilitation, antidotes and regulations on prescribing, relatively little has addressed non-pharmacological alternatives to opioids. Increasingly, research has shown that several approaches, including acupuncture, yoga, mobilization, manipulation, physical therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy, are evidence-based options. In this talk, Dr. Tick will review these approaches and discuss health-promoting products pharmacists can incorporate to assist patients’ healing.
