During this presentation, Pamela W. Smith, M.D., MPH, MS will discuss sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). After this presentation the viewer should be able to:

• Know the definition of SHBG

• Learn the etiologies of low SHBG in women

• Recognize the etiologies of low SHBG in men

• Understand the causes of high SBHG in men

• Review the causes of low SHBG in women

• Identify that SHBG may be an index of insulin resistance in postmenopausal obese women

• Distinguish that low SHBG levels are an independent biomarker of pro-inflammatory states

• Learn that SHBG concentrations are correlated with features of metabolic syndrome in postmenopausal women
